Maruti Swift Exterior 2022  -

The third generation of the Swift has recently finished a three year run, and as expected, it has been lighting up the sales charts. You'd think that now would be the ideal opportunity to introduce a juicy upgrade and forward the fun hatch. Then, lo and behold, Maruti Suzuki delivered an updated version. Sadly, it appears to be a feeble attempt at a facelift at first glance. So, should we anticipate more of the same from the Swift?
Maruti has remained true to the saying, "If it ain't broke, don't fix it." Sadly, it came at the expense of a brand-new car appearing exactly like one that is three years old.

The 'new' Swift can easily be confused with the previous model. Everything else stays the same, with the exception of the redesigned grille, which features a noticeable chrome strip and a pattern resembling a honeycomb mesh. The hallmarks of the Swift design, like the stubby nose, elevated rump, and sleek, flowing lines, have all been preserved.

Cool LED projector headlamps and alloy wheels with a dual-tone finish are only available on the top-spec ZXI+ variant. Both features were carried over from the previous model. The Swift needed new wheels, and that was the least Maruti Suzuki could have done. You now have the choice of a dual-tone paint job if you decide to select the fully-loaded model. Only red with black, white with black, and blue with white are available here.

The back is unaltered in any way. Updated tail light designs and perhaps even a sportier bumper with some chunky exhaust tips sticking out to suggest the extra power under the hood are things we would have loved to see.

Swift Interior -

If the "updates" to the design didn't impress you, the inside features more of the same for you. The dashboard is still upright and slanted in the direction of the driver. Even after spending time in a Hyundai Grand i10 Nios, it still seems stiff, plasticky, and of only average quality. This cabin is mostly black, which adds to the impression that you're in a low-cost hatchback. However, Maruti has made an effort to offer visual relief by adding dark grey accents to the dash and the flat-bottom steering wheel.

There isn't much to criticise save the dubious plastics. The ergonomics are perfect, and it's also very simple to find a comfortable driving position.

The spacious front seats are roomy and supportive, and the top two types allow for height adjustment.

The back bench hasn't been updated either. There is enough area for a six-footer to sit behind another person. In the back, three people can fit close together but it is still possible. The Swift does have a little broader cabin than competitors like the Figo and Nios. Unexpectedly, Maruti chose not to include rear AC vents on the new Swift. This undoubtedly would have sped up the cooling process in the pitch-black cabin.

On the practicality perspective, there are no issues. The glovebox, door pockets, seat back pockets, and centre cubbies all provide lots of storage space. Although the 268-liter boot is adequate, you may have trouble lifting bulky bags due to the high loading lip. The 60:40 split rear seats that come with the top two models increase the Swift's utility rating.

Swift Technology and Features -

Let's start with the fresh information. Auto-folding mirrors that close when you lock the car and open when you press the start-stop button are now standard on the 2021 Swift. In the instrument cluster, there is a brand-new multi-color information display that was taken directly from the Baleno's parts bin. And finally, cruise control. Sadly, only the ZXi+ model has access to all of these capabilities. There isn't a new feature available for any of the lesser trims that you plan to purchase.

Swift also features Suzuki's upgraded "SmartPlay" touchscreen. It contains the standard amenities like Apple CarPlay and Android Auto and is quite simple to use. Both are, regrettably, not wirelessly operable. The top-spec Swift also comes with a six-speaker stereo system, automatic air control, and automated headlights as standout features.

Swift Safety -

Dual airbags, ABS with EBD, and ISOFIX child seat mounts are all standard features offered by Maruti Suzuki. The Swift received larger brakes and an electronic stability software as part of the update (limited to the AMT versions).

In a crash test conducted by Global NCAP, the Swift built for India received a pitiful 2 stars. It was determined that the body shell integrity was unstable.

Maruti Swift Performance -

Thanks to a new gasoline engine, Maruti Suzuki's cheerful hatchback is offering even more smiles. While maintaining a 1.2-liter displacement, the motor makes an additional 7PS thanks to Suzuki's "DualJet" technology. Both a 5-speed manual and a 5-speed AMT are available to you.

When put to the test, the Swift achieved a 0-100kmph time of 11.63 seconds, which is one full second faster than the previous edition. Surprisingly, the claimed fuel efficiency increases as well: from 21.21kmpl to 23.2kmpl (MT) and 23.76kmpl (AMT). This is probably because the start-stop feature was added, which turns the car off automatically when you are idling, as at a red light or while caught in a major traffic congestion.

The engine starts and idles smoothly, as you might anticipate. Nothing at all vibrates or makes unpleasant noises. Driving the manual is also not difficult. You won't get tired in heavy traffic thanks to the incredibly light clutch and the smooth gear lever throws. You'll notice the extra power in daily driving, as I mentioned earlier. Even if there isn't much of a difference, it is now a little bit simpler to find traffic gaps. On the highway, you may comfortably travel at triple digit speeds.

The 5-speed AMT provides excellent convenience. For an AMT, both upshifts and downshifts are surprisingly swift. You wouldn't mind the small head nod either if you drove carefully. The slightly sluggish nature of the AMT is only noticeable when you stomp the accelerator because it takes almost a full second before upshifting.

We would choose the manual out of the two. It doesn't require too much work and makes the most of the Swift's amusing personality.

Maruti Swift Ride and Handling -

The Swift should keep you comfortable for daily travels on good roads. Only when you are driving over uneven terrain, over jagged edges, or over expansion joints does the suspension's stiffness come into play. Here, simply moving more quickly seems to soften the motion within the cabin. You wouldn't be complaining at reasonable speeds for highway travel. Once you get past it, the vehicle does have a light, detached feel about it, and the steering is also a little floaty. But a set of twisties, not straights, is where the Swift is at its best.

You'll like the Swift's fast steering and enthusiasm to take turns in the ghats. You may flick the tail out and enjoy some sideways fun with the appropriate inputs. Here, the Swift benefits from the stiff suspension, which limits excessive body roll.

Maruti Swift Models -

LXi, VXi, ZXi, and ZXi+ are the four variations of the 2021 Swift that are offered. All variants—all but the LXi—are offered with the AMT.

We suggest:

Leave out the base version.

If money is tight, choose the VXi version.

The ZXi model offers the best value of the bunch; try to get this one.

There are no must-have features on the ZXi+, despite the fact that it justifies its price premium.

The Maruti Swift may not impress you in terms of updates. It might have used a more modern design, a few more gratifying functions, and an improvement in quality. The new engine is the sole noticeable upgrade. The new engine simply outperforms the existing petrol engine, which was already a milestone in terms of refinement, performance, and efficiency.
The Swift's formula has not changed in spite of the upgrades. The Swift is still a good option if you want a small family vehicle without giving up pleasure while you're driving by yourself.
